Winter fun in Whitehorse
brett
Ben and Aidan live up in Whitehorse now, and they played host to me up there for a week. It was a fantastic time, and we did all sorts of fun things. Let’s start off with a picture of Aidan, Ben and a Sombrero:

That was from the first day up in Whitehorse. We spent the day wandering around town, it was great fun. The next day, Ben had to work, so Aidan and I went ice fishing. And snowshoeing. And we shot potatoes out of a 5 foot PVC tube about 200 feet. And then we went home and met up with Ben, and went to play indoor soccer. And then we went and saw “The Twisters” - a live swing band. That was a great day. I know what you’re thinking - what would it look like if I hip held a 5 foot potato gun?

Okay, so that brings us to Friday. Friday was a nice relaxing day, had a great sushi meal at Mel’s place, and then we went and saw a great play called “Born Yesterday”. Saturday, we played some hockey, then went dog sledding! I know, it was very cool. I highly recommend it if you can - it’s very easy and really relaxing. Check out Ben pulling a “Look Mom, no hands!” move:

That wrapped up Saturday. Sunday we were going to ice climb, but there was a miscommunication and the place was closed, so we hung about until it was time for supper. Then we went and had a fantastic dinner at a friend of Ben and Aidan’s that they play soccer with. It was a really interesting dinner - fantastic food, a surprise wedding announcement by the hosts, a hilarious preview of a B-movie that the host was involved in, home videos of some moose hunting trips, and Aidan even got the host to give us a real moose call in the comfort of his basement. Yup, a full fledged moose call.
Then we moved on to Monday, where we went tobogganing on some awesome hills. Then we drove out to Braeburn lodge, which is about an hour north of Whitehorse. We had the biggest burgers I’ve ever seen there, and cinnamon buns the size of your head. Well, most people’s heads, anyway. Want proof? Okay - here you go:

So, there you go. And thus ended Monday, and I left early Tuesday. What’s the moral of the story? If you get a chance, definitely go up to Whitehorse and visit Ben and Aidan while they’re around. They’ve just decided to stay for another year, and it’s a lot of fun! There were some 400 pictures from that trip, and you can find them all here.
I think I’ll leave you with something a little unique that you can probably only see up in Whitehorse:
